Curious case of Benjamin Button.
I went into the new showcase cinema optimistic. With my comfy reclining seat and thinking-chocolate in-hand.
I really wanted to appreciate this film.
In conversation:
It was disappointing, repetitive and let's say I saw what was coming.
In film-classroom, pen-to-paper:
The first half demonstrates Fincher's diversity, at least a thematic departure from the Pitt collaborative 'Fight Club'.
The narrative was exaggerated and stretched across 2hrs 45, constantly deviating from the plot before finally reaching it's inevitable.
Despite it's upheaval of critical acclamation, I evaluated this film as a reflection of the remanising though trail of 'Forest Gump',
the magical humorous 'Meet Joe Black' and the epic nature reminiscent of a hollywood statement such as Jackson's delicate re-make flop,
'King Kong'. It's easy to see how people can be blinded by big stars, special effects and a 'perfect-story', still the film had it's moments; the blind man building a reversing clock, the chaos theory scene and of course Tilda Swinton. At the end of the day, the film's subject overruled it's
statement. And all my choc was gone.
